A police captain sued, alleging Diaz discriminated against women and people of color, while several female officers also filed a $5 million tort claim alleging harassment and sex discrimination. Diaz oversaw the department for four years and took over as acting chief in 2020 after his predecessor resigned following protests against police violence.
