Description: The Fall of Man was a well- established subject in northern art of the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries, becoming especially popular after Albrecht Dürer’s influential engraving of Adam and Eve of 1508. It was particularly favoured by Lucas Cranach the Elder and his patrons if we are to judge from the more than thirty known surviving versions of this theme executed by Cranach and his workshop between the years 1510 and 1546.
