One in five Americans are “always” thinking about planning their next vacation while on vacation, according to new research.

A survey of 2,000 adults who travel found that one in five long to be on vacation again the day they get back (21%) and another 27% said this feeling sets in within a week.
The average person spent 11 days on vacation in 2023.

Looking ahead, the average American wants to spend 15 days on vacation in 2024 and, if they had unlimited PTO, they’d want to spend 18 days.

Although just a quarter of respondents said they travel more than the average person they know, 46% want to be known as a frequent traveler by others in their life.
Conducted by OnePoll for timeshare brand Club Wyndham, the survey found that 89% of those surveyed said vacation reduces their stress levels, even temporarily, with 84% saying a vacation can relax them and decrease stress for up to two whole weeks upon returning.

A majority of respondents said that they consider vacations as a form of self-care (86%).
Similarly, eight in 10 would be interested in a “do-nothing” vacation where they sit by the pool, beach or inside reading a book or relaxing.

“According to the survey, more than 70% of potential travelers count down to their vacation, and a majority long to travel again just one week after returning home,” said Annie Roberts, senior vice president of club and owner services at Club Wyndham.
“With today’s travelers often putting a great deal of time and thought into the trip planning and dreaming stages to ensure a vacation that is well tailored to their interests, it’s not surprising that they want to experience the ‘vacation glow’ again and again.”

To make sure they get what they’re looking for, those surveyed go to great lengths to plan their vacations.

Respondents want to steer clear of discomforts like sharing a bathroom with others (27%) and want to avoid situations where they would have difficulty sleeping (27%).

Nearly a quarter of travelers said sharing a hotel room isn’t ideal and the same percentage said small hotel rooms were a dealbreaker (23%, each).

Most Americans surveyed said that when on vacation with others, they prefer having their own or extra space to spread out (79%), including 82% of parents.

If they had their dream hotel room, respondents would make sure there was Wi-Fi (55%), a private balcony or outdoor area (41%), a large bedroom (37%), a large bathroom (33%) and a full-sized kitchen or kitchenette (32%).

“With nearly a third of respondents (29%) spending most or all their time at their hotel or resort while on vacation, it’s clear that travelers deserve more than just a place to sleep,” said Roberts. “People want to ensure their vacation decisions bring them quality, consistency and peace of mind for their entire experience. Accommodations that actually enhance your vacation, like separate bedrooms, bathrooms and full-sized kitchens, offer travelers a special luxury — the chance to gather comfortably to enjoy shared moments that become lifelong memories.”

Survey methodology:
This random double-opt-in survey of 2,000 Americans who travel was commissioned by Club Wyndham between March 22 and March 28, 2024. It was conducted by market research company OnePoll, whose team members are members of the Market Research Society and have corporate membership to the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) and the European Society for Opinion and Marketing Research (ESOMAR).

Amy Winehouse fans are flocking to visit the star's favourite haunts following the release of a new biopic - despite mixed reviews.

The late singer is heavily associated with the London borough of Camden, which also served as a backdrop to many scenes in the recently released 'Back to Black'.

The film has come in for criticism, with some claiming it goes too easy on Winehouse's dad Mitch and her ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil.

Fans revealed on Wednesday they had travelled from all over to visit Camden - with one couple having journeyed more than 700 miles from Barcelona.

Scarlet Elias, 43, came from the Spanish city with her partner Albert to see a statue of the singer - but says she refuses to watch the film.

She said: “We are huge fans. I am always looking for places with Amy Winehouse.

“I haven’t seen it because of the way it shows her father. I don’t think he treated her right. The film shouldn’t have been made in this way. It is too focused on her relationship with Blake.

“She was a good singer; it shouldn’t be about all the drugs she did.”

The bronze statue, created by Scott Eaton, was unveiled in Stables Market in 2014, three years after the singer's death.

Ayoub Achkah, 24, works serving beer next to the statue and says Winehouse brings in lots of customers.

He said: “Everyone everyday poses with that statue. People are always asking us where the statue is even though it is right in front of them.

“It brings a lot of people here for sure. They come here for the statue and end up having a beer.

“Amy Winehouse is Camden. She brought it to where it is now. It is a small statue but it is the symbol of Camden.”

Similar beliefs were held by fans who had flocked to the street art mural of Winehouse, painted by artist JXC on the back of The Hawley Arms pub.

Two students from Brighton University were visiting the mural mere moments after watching the movie on an Amy Winehouse themed tour of Camden.

The pair had conflicting opinions on the films more controversial scenes, but were in agreement that lead actress Marisa Abela had done a great job.

Lewis McClean, 20, said: “We are big fans. We have just seen the movie. We feel very conflicted about it.

“The lady who played Amy was very good, she did her justice. That is something I was worried about going in. I really liked the movie.

“She knew that she had to go through a struggle to make good music and I am glad they portrayed that. To make a good film you have to put in the juicy parts.”

Maddy Gower, 21, added: “I feel very conflicted about the father stuff. In the film they made him look like a hero.

“[And] there was a part where she says, ‘I just want to be known for what I do’ but they just showed the drugs.

“Amy is so unique, and I think the actress did a very good job.\

Work to save Tenby Golf Club’s course from further erosion is underway, although some have labelled the plans as a ‘scar’ on the seaside town’s South Beach.
Known as the ‘birthplace of Welsh Golf’ Tenby’s links golf course established in 1888, has over many years, and even more so in recent times, suffered from the ongoing effects of coastal erosion and storm damage at points along its interface with South Beach.
Despite the erection of some ‘soft defences’ at the foot of the dunes, the actions of ‘mother nature’ has now impacted the course to such an extent that parts of adjacent holes are being lost to the erosion.
Two years ago, the Golf Club submitted plans to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority with proposals to construct a ‘coastal defence project’ to protect the course situated alongside from further erosion.
The application proposed the erection of a ‘temporary coastal defence system’ incorporating gabion baskets and ‘mattresses’ made of steel frames and filled with stone, to be set out in front and laid on top of the existing dune system for an approximate length of 200 metres, to protect the dunes and golf course adjacent to them from storm damage and erosion, for a period of up to 10 years.
The plans were submitted by STRI (acting as the Club’s agent) who are specialists in sports and golf course development, construction, and reconstruction.
Work has finally got underway this month, towards the Penally end of the beach and dunes, however one resident of the village which the golf course encompasses, has been left less than impressed at the early stages of the plans progressing.
“This is the current works being carried out by the Tenby Golf Club members for the sum of £120,000, but in my humble opinion it's a scar on a precious Tenby/Penally visitor asset,” said Penally villager Dave Laming.
Members of Tenby Civic Society also expressed several concerns at the time the application was approved by PCNPA as to the impact on the character of the beach and the locality.
“The South Beach is still a natural beach backed by dunes, but the proposal will make it look more like a man made environment,” said Harry Gardiner from the Civic Society.
“Over the years, damaged by the sea, the caissons would be very unattractive - would they be removed then?” he added.

Meet the dog who loves riding around on his owner's Harley-Davidson - and even has his own seat and goggles for his adventures.

Joe Bughman, 61, built a custom dog seat when he spotted rescue dog Oreo wasn't scared when he started the huge bike's 1150cc engine.

Intrigued Oreo hopped right in - even resting his paws on the seat back rest to get comfy.

And now Joe and Oreo go everywhere together - with the pooch even learning how to shift his weight when going round corners.

Now the pair have been riding together for five years and the local celebrities are often spotted out and about.

Battery technician Joe, from Dubuke, Iowa, said: “He's a natural – he's funny. He's honestly the coolest dog ever.

“Most dogs would run away when you start a Harley because they’re so loud.

“Oreo would start following me around and I thought he wanted a ride.

“I fabricated an aluminium box which I mounted on the rack on the back of bike – and the rest was history.

“He loves it. He’s never tried to jump out - he's gotten so used to riding now he rides partially with his front paws on my back rest to see over my shoulder.

“He’s a good rider, he knows how to shift his weight and he’s pretty amazing.”

Joe, wife Penny, 60, and their two daughters adopted Oreo from the local humane society after Joe provided volunteer welding services.

Abbey, 18 and sister Erin, 21, chose the pup – who they believe is a black Lab and weiner dog mix – and Joe says he had his doubts initially.

But Oreo quickly won him round and now the pair are inseparable.

Battery technician Joe bought his Harley Road King brand new in 2003 for £20k and says he’s owned bikes since he was 12.

Joe and Oreo ride from spring to autumn – with Joe saying they’re on the bike “full time”.

“Every time I take him out, I’m surprised it hasn’t caused a car crash, people are so distracted,” said Joe.

“He just wants to do anything I'm doing. If I climb into a go-kart or anything the dog wants some of that.

“Most girls will say 'that's the cutest thing I've ever seen in my life' - my standard answer is 'why thank you, but what do you think of the dog'.

“I can walk out into the garage and bump the starter on the Harley and that dog will come running down the hallway every time - it's the funniest thing to see.”
